GOVERNMENT CHAMPIONS INFORMAL SECTOR GROWTH, CALLS FOR JOINT EFFORTS TO UPLIFT MARKETEERS

The Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development has reaffirmed its commitment to the empowerment of marketeers and the growth of the informal sector, following a courtesy call by the Zambia National Marketeers Credit Association (ZANAMACA).
During the engagement, held at the Ministry headquarters, ZANAMACA President Mr. Mupila Kameya led a delegation to discuss collaborative opportunities aimed at improving the welfare of marketeers across the country. Key areas of discussion included access to affordable finance, market infrastructure development, and increased participation of marketeers in the Constituency Development Fund (CDF) framework.
Speaking during the meeting, the Honourable Minister underscored the government’s recognition of the informal sector as a key driver of economic development. He commended ZANAMACA for its continued advocacy and support to small scale traders, describing the Association as a critical partner in the Ministry’s agenda of inclusive growth and decentralization.
“The government remains committed to creating an enabling environment for marketeers to thrive. Through strategic partnerships such as this, we can ensure that our interventions are responsive to the real needs of our people on the ground,” the Minister stated.
The Ministry further emphasized the importance of structured engagement and announced plans to work with ZANAMACA aimed at strengthening local market systems and service delivery.
