The Government, through Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development (MLGRD), has signed 22 contracts for the rehabilitation of 701.6 Kilometers of selected Feeder Roads in various parts of the Country at a cost of K926, 900, 256.56
This is in a quest to open up ‘hard-to-reach’ communities in some parts of the Country, by providing them with road infrastructure not only for transportation, but also accessibility of new avenues for economic growth and social economic empowerment.
MLGRD Permanent Secretary (Administration) Mr. Maambo Haamaundu announced that the signed 22 contracts will involve rehabilitation of the 701.6 Kilometres of Feeder Roads alongside construction of drainage systems as well as installation of modern culverts.
Mr Haamaundu stated that 42.8 Kilometres of Nshindaila-Chungu-Kalaba and Chungu- Mutondo- Kasaba Feeder Road in Lupososhi District will be worked on at a cost of K98,201,192.23.
In the same District, there will be rehabilitation of 43.3 Kilometres of M3 Chungu and Kabangalala Chiyongoli Feeder Road at K57,743,532.16
He highlighted that, in Kalumbila District, there are two projects involving rehabilitation of 66.4 Kilometres of Musele-Mwafwe Feeder Road at K93,502,431.85, and 32 Kilometres of Lukendo Feeder Road at K47,958,063.14.
In Mambwe District, 33.5 Kilometres of D104 to Msoro Road via Chikowa Feeder Road will be rehabilitated at a cost of K41,289,905.36.
The Permanent Secretary stated that, in Nyimba District, 22 Kilometers will be rehabilitated connecting Chinambi-Mbizi Road via Ngambwe School Road, Nyimba Secondary School, DC, and paving of the Hospital Road amounting to K53,370,555.42.
In Luwingu District, there are two projects involving 21 Kilometres of U18 Junction to Malekani and Musali Shimumbi Junction Feeder Road at a cost of K30,873,205.29, and 21 Kilometres of Nshimbi-Kabangamika-Shimumbi Junction to Njoko and Mupepa Junction towards Shimumbi Feeder Roads at K24,996,682.48.
In Kaoma District, 25 Kilometres of Chilombo-Katoya Road will be rehabilitated at K35,763,166.56, while in Mwinilunga District, 28 Kilometres of R287 to Kasenga Primary School Feeder Road amounting to K40,751,200.00.
Mr Haamaundu stated that 29.6 Kilometres of Sewe Junction via Chingi to Chiyeka Feeder Road in Chavuma District will be worked on at K50,029,714.71, while in Namwala District, there is 30 Kilometres connecting Niko-Musemu Road at K43,044,711.60.
A total of 30 Kilometres of TBZ (M9) at Kamakokwa Junction-Lombelobe Centre in Nkeyema District will be rehabilitated at K44,475,783.88.
In Monze District, he stated that 31.9 Kilometres from T1 to Hufwa School and Hamapande Kazungula schools will be worked at a cost of K41,823,184.04.
In Ngabwe District, there are two projects involving 32.2 Kilometres of Lwamala and Nsengwa-Chishimu Feeder Road to be worked on at K38,602,582.92, as well as 18 Kilometres of Chisanga- Kakonko Feeder Road at K25,684,688.64.
He stated that, in Mazabuka District, 12.1 Kilometres of Nachipoma Siyowi Feeder Road will be rehabilitated at K34,957,235.39, while another project in the same District involves 16 Kilometres of Mbaya-Musuma Feeder Road at K18,721,629.60.
In Mwinilunga District, 17.8 Kilometres of Kasenga Primary School to Kamapanda Feeder Road will be worked on at K29,421,601.49. In Mazabuka District, 9.3 Kilometres of Mazabuka Nanga Via Lubombo Feeder Road will be rehabilitated at K14,541,731.12.
He highlighted that, in Mambwe District, 11.5 Kilometres of Chikowa Turn Off to Kabindwa Village Feeder Road at K25,425,129.40 will be rehabilitated including in Mazabuka District involving 8 Kilometres of Munenga-Itebe Feeder Road at K35,722,329.22.
This brings the total funding of the projects to K926, 900, 256.56
“As Government, we are committed to linking communities in rural areas to various economic activities,” Mr Haamaundu stated.
He said it is the desire of Government to continue improving the social and economic status of the people.
The Permanent Secretary further implored contractors to utilise the expertise of youths trained under the Constituency Development Fund (CDF) skills development as a way to empower them.
