MLGRD FOR EFFECTIVE SERVICE DELIVERY

The Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development (MLGRD) on Wednesday, 9th October, 2024, participated at the first-ever Government Delivery Forum organised by the President Delivery Unit (PDU) at Pamodzi Hotel in Lusaka under theme “DELIVERING FOR THE PEOPLE”

The PDU was established in March 2023 by His Excellency, Mr Hakainde Hichilema, President of the Republic of Zambia, to accelerate the implementation of his priority Government programmes and projects, such as the Constituency Development Fund (CDF).

The Government Delivery Forum (exhibition), therefore, was a significant milestone marking three years of the President’s transformative leadership and one year of the PDU’s impactful operations.

An assembly of 300 distinguished guests comprising Government officials, the private sector convened, 15 Government lead-ministries implementing the Presidential Priorities also presented their contributions through exhibitions and presentations. The event was officiated by the Head of State.

The forum was aimed at;

 Showcasing the progress achieved by PDU and its implementers across key priority areas such as the implementation of Constituency Development Fund (CDF), and also;

 Enhancing understanding of the PDU mandate, and the President’s unwavering commitment to revolutionize public service delivery.

The forum also unveiled the accomplishments that have shaped our journey as MLGRD in implementing CDF, and the ambitious plans for our future.  This is particularly that MLGRD, through Local Authorities, is mandated to ensure optimising the CDF utilisation to achieve a minimum of 85% by 2026 by effectively addressing challenges along the CDF value chain.

MLGRD was identified as one of the key participants to the PDU-exhibition owing to CDF, which is a flagship programme of the New Dawn Administration, aimed at driving decentralisation policy as well as empowering Citizens to determine their own development agenda.

During the exhibition, the Ministry showcased various CDF achievements in form of; A Dash board highlighting CDF latest statistics covering all categories in line with the Presidential priorities on CDF value chain.

Further to the exhibition, the Ministry participated in a panel discussion amplifying the CDF value chain. Among the panelists included; Permanent Secretary (Technical Services) Mr Nicholas Phiri, His royal Highness Chief Munukwa from Eastern Province.

The panelists spoke to the impact and achievements made out of CDF implementation. Further, their presentations also spoke to the benefits made in selected priority areas such as health, education and community.
