GOVERNMENT’S DEVELOPMENTAL AGENDA ELATES CHIEF KAWAZA

KATETE: Chieftainess Kawaza of Katete District in Eastern Province has commended the Government for implementing more meaningful developmental projects, particularly in rural parts of the Country.
The traditional leader said she is impressed to note that Government has remained resonate in its agenda of ensuring every chiefdom receives a fair share of development.
She cited the support from the Government in facilitating the construction of a palace and a Police post in her chiefdom using the enhanced Constituency Development Fund (CDF).
Chieftainess Kawaza said the construction of the Police post in her Chiefdom underscores Government’s commitment to enhancing security and ensuring the safety of the people regardless of where they live.
She emphasised that the presence of law enforcement officers closer to communities will contribute in the maintenance of law and order in communities.
The traditional leader was speaking when the Minister of Local Government and Rural Development Hon Gary Nkombo, MP, who was accompanied by Permanent Secretary (Technical Services) Mr Nicholas Phiri, paid a courtesy call on her at her Palace.
“As we look forward to completion of these projects, I am confident that they will not only contribute to the physical infrastructure in our Chiefdom, but also serve as catalysts for economic development,” she said.
In response, Hon Nkombo informed the traditional leader that Government will ensure all developmental projects such as construction of palaces in various chiefdoms are completed in time to enable the chiefs have more decent accommodation.
The Minister and his entourage inspected construction of Chieftainess Kawaza’s new palace, and the Police Post, and expressed happiness with the progress and adherence to quality standards of the project.
“These projects not only address immediate infrastructural needs, but also contribute to economic advancement of Katete District at large,” he said.
Hon Nkombo said the Government is delighted to note that the enhanced CDF is imparting positively in improving the livelihoods of communities because local people are able to make decisions on what projects they want in their chiefdoms.
