One of the mandates of the Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development (MLGRD) is to ensure the provision of adequate fire-fighting services in the country. The Ministry has, therefore, prioritized the fire and rescue services, and one of the focal areas is the ongoing process of developing the Fire Service Act in order to give the sector the required legal mandate as an organized service.
In this regard, the Ministry has also been constructing Fire Stations in selected areas such as; three Fire Stations in Lusaka, located in Chelstone, Makeni and Chilenje Townships. The three facilities are almost complete and will be commissioned soon.
