President Hakainde Hichilema has reaffirmed Governmentβs commitment to strengthening decentralisation and improving service delivery at the grassroots, describing Councillors as critical partners in national development.
Speaking during the first ever Special Meeting with 1,832 Councillors from across the country, President Hichilema recognised the vital role Councillors play in advancing Governmentβs decentralisation agenda, stressing that their contribution cannot be overemphasised. He said Councillors are Governmentβs foot soldiers who bring development closer to the people at ward level.
The President also acknowledged the huge responsibility that comes with decentralisation, reminding Councillors that with greater authority comes even greater accountability. He urged them to exercise integrity, transparency and fairness in the discharge of their duties, while always prioritising the national interest.
