In a powerful show of what local development can achieve, the Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development has commissioned 40 community projects in Katete District, marking a new chapter of progress for the people.
Led by the Permanent Secretary for Technical Services, Mr. Nicholas Phiri, the commissioning ceremony highlighted key infrastructure projects funded through the Constituency Development Fund (CDF) from 2022 to 2024. Among them are Kanjeza Secondary School, the newly built Soweto Market, and the Kagolo Admission Ward, each a reflection of governmentโs commitment to bringing services closer to the people.
The symbolic commissioning was also coupled with a graduation ceremony for 125 students under Milanzi and Mkaika constituencies, who successfully completed various skills training programs. These include 32 students in tailoring, 22 in entrepreneurship, 51 in agriculture with a focus on poultry production and horticulture, and 20 in ICT and computer skills. The graduation marks a milestone in youth empowerment and community capacity building through CDF skills development initiatives.
โThese are not just buildings; they are proof of what happens when leadership listens, plans with purpose, and invests where it matters most,โ said Mr. Phiri, speaking to an excited crowd of residents and stakeholders.
He praised the leadership of President Hakainde Hichilema for placing the CDF at the heart of local development and called for even greater support to expand its impact across Zambia.
Mr. Phiri also used the occasion to urge the Katete Town Council to prioritize infrastructure that aligns with national policies and serves the actual needs of the people. He particularly emphasized the need for maternal health facilities that are safe, fully equipped, and responsive to the well-being of women.
As children prepare to learn in better classrooms, traders open shop in a modern marketplace, and patients find care in new health wards, Katete is stepping into a future shaped by its own people, powered by a government that is listening.
