Construction of the New Kawambwa modern market by the Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development at the cost of Ten million, eight hundred twenty thousand, two hundred ninety-eight kwacha has reached an advanced stage.
The construction of the modern market which commenced in 2013 and being constructed in the Central Business District of Kawambwa will help decongest Chimfwembe market which is the only established market in the district once completed.
With the district population increasing and the business sector expanding, the modern market will not only offer traders with a conducive trading environment but will also enhance the revenue base for the Local Authority.
The construction works at the market currently stands at 80% and the sections at the facility include fresh foods, dry foods, vegetable, salon, barbershop, boundary shops and butchery. Others include open market, ablution blocks, State Police Post, guard house and administrative offices..
The scope of works being undertaken include installation of ceilings, doors, structural steel works, roofing of restaurant’s, boundary shops, glazing, painting, decorations, electrical installation and power connection among others.
Once fully completed, the market shall eventually be handed over to Kawambwa Town Council and subsequently to the local traders for beneficial use and occupation.
